Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.

A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
A lot of great food options, best seafood in Colombia.
Our favorites:
- La Cevicheria
- La Mulata
- Cafe del Mar ( bit pricey for what it is, but worth it for the sunset drinks )
- El baron ( great tapas in the middle of the square )
Town with a rich history and lots of important landmarks and sights to visit. Great colonial architecture, colorful streets and lively people.
It is very touristic, with a lot of locals non stop trying to sell/push tours/restaurants and goods on the street, felt a bit like India sometimes. There are great street performances of dance groups and artists happening, which i enjoyed a lot though!

Great place to visit as long as you don't mind being harrassed non stop by street vendors trying to sell you hats, cigars, sunscreen, tchotchkes and other things, having menus constantly thrown in your face or being honked at by multiple cab drivers if you stop on a sidewalk for even a second wanting to know if you need a ride. Everything worth seeing in Cartagena can be seen in one day, two tops if you want to see some places out side the city

Better to go to brasil for vacation. or Cuba. Cartagena is a little rough on edges and no good food to be had anywhere. Been here 20 times due to family. much better places to vacation in northeast Brasil and for much cheaper

If you are American, everything there feels like a price...
If you are American, everything there feels like a price gouge and/or a scam. You will pay New York prices for a very low quality experience advertised as being five stars top notch. I have traveled a fair bit and unfortunately nothing that we did in Cartagena was worth the price we paid for it - not the hotel, not the food (with the notable exception of Crepes & Waffles restaurant), not the history tours, not the snorkeling adventure. The scuba diving adventure, which we booked and paid through Viator, got canceled on us by the scuba company at the last minute (9pm the night before) only to be told by the next morning at 8am "if you pay us directly" we can still go. Needless to say, we didn't go. I felt pretty burnt. I would not recommend travel to Cartagena to anyone.

Regardless of the problems of security and prices changes...
Regardless of the problems of security and prices changes for tourists in Cartagena which takes trust away from tourists, I think we can learn, bea aware and handle it and enjoy of the unique beauty of Cartagena antigua, which is breath taking. A good hotel at a good location will make the stay even better.
I think we could've planned better our trip to go to better beaches, and iconic restaurants. But we had a nice experience.

The hotel was absolutely fabulous! The location was great, right in the city center but still inside like an oasis, a private and quiet place. Exactly like I expected it to be! The architecture was unique, the rooms beautiful and the breakfast great! The amenities of the hotel were exquisite, the pool also very nice. Walking distance from the clubs and bars in case you would like to party; would recommend La Jugada or Alquimico. The place to be in case you would like to stay in the old city of Cartagena but still enjoy quiet nights.
The hotel was in a excellent area at 10 minutes drive from the main area of Cartagena where all the bar, restaurants and clubs are and also like 10 minutes from the airport which is very convenient. It was also in from of Playa Marbella. The hotel was very clean and the customer service was excellent. Staff are very friendly and helpful when it comes to inform your about activities, places to go, etc. Also the pool area was nice to relax. They also have breakfast included which it was topical Colombian breakfast.
- The room is very good, with air conditioning and looking historical,
- The beds are very comfy
- Breakfast was fresh and delicious
- The staff was extremely friendly and careful, also with the corona measures
- The hotel is in right in the old city of Cartagena and full with life, it didn't matter hearing the music of the old town a little late in the night
- Very good place to relax after spending hours in the chaotic and loud old town
- The hotel looks good
The best penthouse in Cartagena de Indias. The apartment has a huge terrace with a private pool and with the best view in the historic center of Cartagena . After a tourist 's day the best moment was when we came back to the apartment. We stayed three days in Cartegena and the last day we decided to remind all the day at home smelling and seeing the Caribbean Sea from the terrace .
We will never forget that apartment !!!
I will try come back there sure !!!
Very comfortable and well equipped room, with a great view across the rooftops of Cartagena, giving it a luxurious feel. Responsive and friendly staff via a dedicated WhatsApp chat. Simple check in and out and a proper boutique feel to the hotel.
Excellent roof terrace and plunge pool (in the Penthouse suite), given Cartagena's humidity. Lots of great touches both in the room and around the hotel. Excellent location for accessing Cartagena's old city.
We loved Casa Pizarro! The staff was so helpful, breakfasts were fantastic, the room was comfortable and quiet, and the pool was great for the Cartagena heat. This is a great location in the heart of Getsemani but far enough from the real center of things that you can get a good, undisturbed night's sleep. It's a quick walk into the old city as well. Wifi was strong enough for my husband to work remotely for a few of the days we were there.
Hotel Casa San Agustín was really an extraordinary and magical place. They have taken care of every detail in the architecture of the place and the staff was so worry about everything you need. In addition, the food in Alma Restaurant was delicious. The place was magical, literally a diamond in the middle of old Cartagena de Indias. My trip would not have been the same if I had not stay here.
Amazing location! Don’t even think two times and booked this room right the way! Room it’s clean, bed comfortable, ac works good, Wi-Fi works good, host is very friendly! And on top it’s nice terrace. Across the street You have new mall, distance walking it’s everywhere 5–10min ( getsemani, main plaza, whall etc). If I would ever come back to Cartagena this is where I stay again!
I've been to Cartagena 6 times, and I stay there at your hotel everytime ,because I enjoy everyone there. From house keeping, to the front desk, servers in the restaurant, the pool. Down to the towel lady at the pool. And I get a massage. I probably wouldn't stay anywhere else. Unless I couldn't get a room next time I come. Thanks again everyone 😊
Location is very close to main Plaza/Church and eateries. The staff was mindful of my needs. The area (Getsemani) is considered a landmark in Cartagena de Indias and everything worth visiting is a 20 minutes walk. Las Tablitas is more for a backpacker clientele in my opinion. There are lockers for your stuff if you bring your own lock.
The staff was wonderful! Denis, was exceptional along with the rest of the staff.
Location was really good. Manga is a really nice and safe neighborhood on a quieter side of the city.
I liked going out for a walk at night close to the seashore.
I actually came back multiple times to this hotel during my stay at Cartagena
Staff were very welcoming and willing to help with any request. Location was excellent being in the heart of the old city.
At night in the bedroom, once the lights were turned off the room was very dark which made for a great night sleep after many other hotels with glaring light shining in all night.
Helpful host. In Old city but quiet compared to many hotels. Beautiful sea view.. Set in an elegant former university building. Lift worked well. Security good as it has 24 hour front desk with vigilant staff. Bathroom and AC all good. Very clean.. Really nice place to stay. Recommend unreservedly.
Hotel within old city walls but a few minutes walking from the busy area thus much more quite during the night, breakfast with 3 great options on the rooftop of the hotel, clean room, shower with hot water, super friendly staff,... In summary the perfect stay for your trip in Cartagena
I recently had the pleasure of staying at a hidden gem nestled within the historic Old City of Cartagena, Colombia, and I can't praise it enough. This hotel effortlessly combines a great location with impeccable charm, cleanliness, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere.
The best street to stay (no bar with loud music in it) and in the best night point in Cartagena, La Plaza de la Trinidad. The rooftop is amazing and so the breakfast. Despite the heat of the city, the temperature of the hostel and room we're comfortable.
Lovely little boutique hotel. Nice modest pool to cool down in. Breakfast was really nice and hearty. Immaculately clean. Bed was super comfy. Friendly staff. That we were in Getsemeni but in the quietest part.
The hotel is right next to the Castle San Felipe de Barajas, 15 minutes from the old city. Breakfast was good enough -- not something unbelievable, but pretty good.
